Red Hook / Rhinebeck Little League has a goal to place each player in an appropriate division, balancing the player's age and skill level, as well as the roster needs of that division.
Players will default to the division that goes along with their age, which goes by the table below. Please note that a player's age goes by Little League's "League Age." For Baseball and Tee Ball programs, this is a player's age on 8/31 of the next Spring season's year. For Softball, it goes by the player's age on 12/31 of the next Spring season's year.

* 6-year-olds who wish to play at the Coach Pitch level must have completed a year of Tee Ball first.
There are some situations in which a player may play in a division for older players:
- The league holds evaluations each Spring to assess the skill level of the players who attend. Based on performance and roster needs, the division's coordinator may select some players for that division.
- A player attending a program (including clinics) has been deemed by coaches at the program to pose a danger to younger players. This is most common when deciding between Tee Ball and Coach Pitch. Some 5-6 year-old children can throw hard enough they may hurt other kids of their own age.
- If a player has already completed a season in that division, he may play in that division again.
